New / Prospective Students
If you are planning to attend UCSB during the 2007-2008 academic year and think
that you will need financial assistance, please review the information provided
below.
Can I afford a UC education?
The University of California has provided a comprehensive explanation of the
financial aid process at this web site:
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/paying.html
How do I apply for financial aid at
UCSB for 2007-2008?
To begin the process, you will need to submit a 2007-2008 Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the federal processor. Note that you cannot apply
until January 1, 2007 and that you should apply no later than March 2, 2007 (the
UCSB and Cal Grant priority filing deadline). You can apply using estimated income
information even if you have not prepared or filed your 2006 federal tax return.
Students are strongly encouraged to apply electronically and they (and their parents)
can apply now to get their federal PIN (used to electronically sign the FAFSA).
This can be accomplished at
http://www.pin.ed.gov.
This web site will be updated in January 2007 with more specific information on
filing the FAFSA and applying for financial aid at UCSB.
Once you have applied electronically (or by paper), have listed UCSB (school code
#001320) on the FAFSA, and are admitted to UCSB for Fall quarter 2007, the UCSB
Financial Aid Office will provide you with an on-line Unofficial Award Letter in
April 2007 to assist you in your college choice decision making.
How do I apply for scholarships?
New freshman and transfer students apply for UCSB awarded scholarships by
completing question #127 on the 2007-2008 University of California Application
for Undergraduate Admission and Scholarships. More information on other
scholarships will be available on this web site in January.
How much does it cost to attend UCSB?
The exact cost of attending UCSB will vary from student to student. Generally,
however, the total costs for an undergraduate student attending Fall, Winter,
and Spring quarters of the 2006-2007 academic year are listed here:
Undergraduate Budget
The total estimated costs for a graduate student attending the Fall, Winter,
and Spring quarters of the 2006-2007 academic year are listed here:
Graduate Budget
It is estimated that these costs will increase for the 2007-2008 academic year.
